The Mysuru-Darbhanga Express (Train No. 12578) was involved in a rear collision with a stationary goods train near Kavaraipettai, Chennai, on the evening of October 11, 2024. The impact caused 12 to 13 coaches to derail, and a parcel van caught fire. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, but 19 people sustained injuries and were hospitalized. Rescue operations were swiftly initiated by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other railway officials
The collision occurred when the passenger train mistakenly switched to a loop line instead of continuing on the main line at a speed of 75 km/h, leading to the crash. Restoration work is ongoing, but rain has delayed the clearance of the tracks. Passengers who were stranded were transferred to a special train to continue their journey
