The victim was returning home when the SUV, a Bolero, collided with his motorcycle, throwing him off. The two-wheeler became lodged under the vehicle, which sped away without slowing down.
A motorcyclist died in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal after being struck by a speeding SUV and dragged under the vehicle, police said Monday.
The incident took place on December 29 around 5 p.m. on the highway near Wajid Puram. The victim, identified as Sukhveer, 50, was returning home from Hayatnagar when the SUV, a Bolero, collided with his motorcycle, throwing him off.
Sukhveer sustained severe injuries, including fractures in both legs and bleeding from multiple areas. He was rushed to the district hospital, where Dr RK Singh, who initially treated him, described his condition as critical.
Sukhveer was referred to a higher medical facility but succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday.
The video of the incident, which surfaced on social media on Monday, shows the Bolero has a BJP sticker reading “gram pradhan” on its rear windshield. The footage prompted widespread outrage and led to swift police action.
The victim’s family lodged a formal complaint, following which a case of culpable homicide was registered against the SUV driver, and the vehicle was seized, a police official told news agency PTI.
